Book Summary
From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for. (Summary from Goodreads)
“Some things you hear with your ears. Others, you hear with your heart.”
Review/Thoughts
This book is great! It’s action packed and fast paced. There’s mystery, violence, and magic, making it such a fun and exciting read. I wasn’t really invested in the series until this book. I got about halfway through this book and knew I couldn’t stop.
There’s some amazing development for characters that are already great. It’s fun to see Celaena really in her element as an assassin. I also really started to like Dorian in this book. I felt so many emotions while reading and I can’t wait to continue these character’s journeys.
“It was hard to care, she realized as she started the trek back to the castle. Incredibly hard to care, when you didn’t have anyone left to care about.”
Since I’m buddy reading this series with my husband, and had him write down some of his thoughts:
This book keeps you on the edge of your seat! There’s tons of violence and it’s very action packed. In this book you really get to see how skilled Celaena is as an assassin. We begin to learn more about magic and how it plays a roll in the plot of the series.
This is the book that really draws you into the series and makes you want to keep reading. You really grow a strong connection with the characters
“But he had no idea what sort of darkness lurked inside her, or what sort of monster she was willing to become in order to make things right.”
