Book Summary
Chaol Westfall and Nesryn Faliq have arrived in the shining city of Antica to forge an alliance with the Khagan of the Southern Continent, whose vast armies are Erilea’s last hope. But they have also come to Antica for another purpose: to seek healing at the famed Torre Cesme for the wounds Chaol received in Rifthold.
After enduring unspeakable horrors as a child, Yrene Towers has no desire to help the young lord from Adarlan, let alone heal him. Yet she has sworn an oath to assist those in need—and will honor it. But Lord Westfall carries shadows from his own past, and Yrene soon comes to realize they could engulf them both.
In this sweeping parallel novel to the New York Times bestselling Empire of Storms, Chaol, Nesryn, and Yrene will have to draw on every scrap of their resilience if they wish to save their friends. But while they become entangled in the political webs of the khaganate, deep in the shadows of mighty mountains where warriors soar on legendary ruks, long-awaited answers slumber. Answers that might offer their world a chance at survival—or doom them all…
“Don’t mistake my kindness for stupidity.”
Review/Thoughts:
I actually enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I adore Yrene’s character and the chemistry she has with Chaol. I’ve always liked Chaol’s character and I liked getting more insight on his struggles and mindset of things. I felt like I was taking a break from an action movie binge to watch a romcom. This book was happy and heartwarming, and I really enjoyed the change of page. I also really enjoyed Nesryn’s plot line later on in the books.
My only complaint is that this book felt unnecessarily long to me. I found myself getting bored and disconnected in some parts.
I tandem read Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn. I followed along with this guide by T.L. Branson. (https://www.tlbranson.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Throne-of-Glass-Reading-Guide.pdf) Tandem reading was pretty tough, it seemed like every time I started to really get into the chapters I was on, I had to switch books. But, after I finished and finding out how Empire of Storms ends, I’m very glad I did it this way! I don’t think I would have liked having stop and read Tower of Dawn.
“Aelin frightens everyone.”
Since I’m buddy reading this series with my husband, and had him write down some of his thoughts:
3/5 ⭐️
🗼🗼🗼
This was a good book, but I wasn’t a fan of the tandem read. With the pace of Empire of Storms and then having to jump and read the slow pace of this book was a struggle. The story line was good but slow. Getting to meet some new characters from a different land was fun and getting to know them and the history was interesting
Overall this would be a good book as a stand alone within the series rather than a tandem read.
“Too thin, she’d told Yrene by way of greeting. She needed a fatter ass for her lover to grip at night.”
