Book Summary:
Nothing says welcome home like an irresistibly hot cowboy inviting himself into your shower.

I should have kicked him out the second he barged in. He’s my brother’s best friend and we’re living on a ranch in the same bunkhouse for the next three weeks. Disaster waiting to happen.

He’s hell bent on keeping his walls up. And I’m a ball of stress, fresh out of medical school, determined to focus on my career and taking care of my family.

Despite the long list of reasons why it’s a terrible idea, we jump into the burning ring of fire that is secret friends with benefits.

As long as there’s no strings attached, no feelings, and no kissing of course.

Just when I think Gage will be a distant memory once I’m gone for good, my heart starts to run the show.

Rules are broken and lines are blurred.

Now I wish the only big secret he’s been keeping was me.

(Summary from Goodreads)

“I don’t bite”
”Somehow I highly doubt that.”

Review/Thoughts:
I loved the premise of this book. I really enjoyed the bunkhouse setting and found family. The characters were all easy to like and really draw you in.

I really loved Blythe’s character, she is driven, ambitious, fun, but also very relatable. I really connected with her people pleasing, overachiever nature. I also enjoyed Gage’s character and watching him take care of Blythe. That said, I struggled with their relationship a bit. There was attraction, but not near enough build up for me feel much chemistry between them. And once they ended up together, I found myself losing interest.

The plot twist in the second half of the book was unexpected, resulting in it being bit weird and unrealistic. I felt like I picked up a completely different book. But, it still ended up sucking me in. I couldn’t put it down and had to find out what happens.

Overall, a pretty solid debut novel. I’m excited to see what else Lainey Lawson writes!
